EXPORT DEVELOPMENT CANADA
Export Development Canada’s new Bangkok representation, led by Chief Representative Cindy Lim, provides on- the-ground expertise and tailored support for Canadian exporters entering the Thai market. With direct access to market intelligence, financing opportunities, and business connections, companies can navigate regulatory challenges and capitalize on growth prospects in Thailand’s key industries.
“At EDC, we’re always looking for ways to support Canadian businesses in expanding their global reach, and our presence in Bangkok is a key step in that journey,” said Cindy Lim, Chief Representative in Thailand. “We are fully prepared to help companies identify opportunities, mitigate risks, and enhance their international competitiveness within Thailand and across the Indo-Pacific region.” EDC works hand-in-hand with the Government of Canada’s Trade Commissioner Service and Global Affairs Canada, ensuring companies receive the strategic insights needed to establish operations and build lasting partnerships in Thailand.
In 2025, EDC served 203 customers and facilitated $295 million in total volume in Thailand—a signal of the country’s growing importance for Canadian exporters. Thailand presents immense growth potential for Canadian businesses. With the country’s push toward economic modernization and sustainability, sectors such as infrastructure development, technology, and clean energy solutions are expected to flourish, offering even more long-term benefits for Canadian businesses that enter now. Thailand is currently Canada's second- largest overall trading partner in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) region. Canada-Thailand bilateral merchandise reached $7.4 billion in 2025. Beyond trade volumes, Thailand is making bold commitments to sustainability, including goals for carbon neutrality by 2050 and net-zero emissions by 2065. This shift towards renewable energy and green innovation opens doors for Canadian companies specializing in clean technology.
With Thailand’s involvement in the ASEAN Free Trade Area and Canada’s membership in the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP), businesses in both countries can benefit from strong trade agreements that lower barriers and facilitate market access. Canadian businesses that establish themselves in Thailand also gain better access to the broader Southeast Asian market, which continues to emerge as a trade powerhouse. With its expanded presence in Thailand and a continued focus on trade diversification, EDC remains dedicated to empowering Canadian businesses with the resources, expertise, and connections they need to thrive in one of the world’s most dynamic economic regions.
