Brighton College Bangkok Hosts Inaugural Medical Careers Conference

Brighton College Bangkok, one of the leading international schools in Thailand and South East Asia, recently hosted the region's inaugural Medical Careers Conference for International Schools with over 250 delegates including pupils, parents, and teachers from across the Greater Bangkok area. The event was a resounding success, providing an opportunity for young people to come together and be inspired about future careers in the medical field.

The conference showcased a mixture of traditional routeways into Medicine, alongside cutting edge research in emerging fields such as Bioengineering, Neuropsychology, and Health Innovation. These exciting alternative medical disciplines were showcased by global experts from internationally renowned institutions Imperial College London, Exeter University UK, Chulalongkorn University, and KMITL. Delegates were able to find out more about research in these areas and were challenged to think up their own solutions to the problems we face on a daily basis by applying the knowledge they learned. One commented, "The talks about innovation and other medicine-related careers were eye-opening and showcased the different pathways possible".

Delegates also had the opportunity to learn firsthand from undergraduates studying Medicine at the prestigious Mahidol University and those who have been successfully accepted at MEDKKU and MIDS to study Medicine and Dentistry how to put together a portfolio of evidence to support their applications. This vital part of the Thai Medical School application process was delivered by the students alongside Brighton College Bangkok’s Head of Key Stage 5 & University Guidance Counsellor, Sophie Peat. Feedback from delegates was that they “loved the information on how to apply to university”.

As one delegate put it, “Being with sixth formers from other international schools allowed us to form new relationships”; a trait which marks the College as one of the leading schools in Southeast East Asia, spreading the values of Curiosity, Confidence, and Kindness. The conference’s combination of international experts, leading institutions and hands-on practical advice for today’s students to become the medical practitioners, researchers, and experts of the future was definitely in keeping with the Brighton College Bangkok philosophy of ‘Being The Best Version of Yourself’.
