Canadian ensemble BadBadNotGood (BBNG) bring their genre-defying sound to Bangkok for one night only this July. Known for seamlessly blending jazz, hip-hop, and experimental music, the trio has built a global reputation for pushing boundaries while staying deeply rooted in musical tradition.
Formed in 2010, BadBadNotGood—Alexander Sowinski (drums), Chester Hansen (bass), and
Leland Whitty (guitar and woodwinds)—met through the Humber College jazz program in
Toronto. Early on, they distinguished themselves by reimagining jazz through the lens of hip-hop and contemporary influences, creating a sound that bridges generations and genres.
Their latest album, Talk Memory—their first release with XL Recordings—marks a return to
their instrumental roots while paying tribute to the artists and traditions that shaped them.
Rather than chasing trends, the band looks inward, reflecting on history, collaboration, and the evolution of their own musical identity.
Driven by the spirit of live performance, Talk Memory captures the improvisational energy that defines BBNG on stage. The album was developed through a more intentional and reflective creative process, with compositions taking shape over two years before being recorded live in analog studios. This approach allowed the band to focus on presence, spontaneity, and deep musical communication.
Collaboration sits at the heart of the project. Featuring contributions from renowned artists
such as Arthur Verocai, Laraaji, Terrace Martin, Brandee Younger, and Karriem Riggins, the
album celebrates community over individual spotlight. It echoes the collective spirit of early jazz traditions, where musical conversation and shared rhythm defined the sound.
More than just an album, Talk Memory is part of a broader multi-disciplinary project that
explores creativity across generations and mediums. Yet at its core remains the same
philosophy that has guided BadBadNotGood from the beginning: music as a living, evolving
dialogue.
Experience that conversation live in Bangkok on 16 July 2026 at Samyan Mitrtown Hall. Tickets start from 2,800Baht and now available at thaiticketmajor.com
