Mr. Wissanu Krea-ngam, Deputy Prime Minister, stated preparations to discuss with the Ministry of Public Health and the Ministry of Justice on the issue of the Cannabis Bill that there was an appointment to discuss on May 31st at Government House. However, leading discussion will be required from the Ministry of Public Health to clarify. Mr. Wissanu said that the budget committee in proportion to the cabinet has already been prepared, which has both MPs in a coalition government and outsiders as well, such as the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Finance. As for whether there will be members of a smaller party or not, he doesn't know, which is the tradition every year.
31 May 2022- At the Government House, H.E. Mr. Anutin Charnvirakul, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Public Health, gave an interview about the case of preparing for an announcement by the Ministry of Public Health about removing marijuana from being a category 5 drug, effective June 9th. But at the same time, the Cannabis Bill has not yet been promulgated. In the afternoon of the same day, Mr. Wissanu Krea-ngam, Deputy Prime Minister, called relevant agencies such as the NACC and the Ministry of Public Health to discuss, but it was not a matter of concern. Because of the cannabis policy that the Ministry of Public Health has always supported, the use of cannabis for the purpose of medical health and as a way to add value to various health-related products. There is no reason to promote the use of cannabis in a way that is punishable or causes a nuisance to the public. At the same time, the Ministry of Public Health held a committee meeting that said, "Anything that has been smoked or consumed causes a nuisance both in regard to the smell and smoke of marijuana or any other similar plant is a disturbance to society." The Ministry of Public Health will have an announcement that will prohibit smoking or consuming cannabis in public, which the Board of Directors has already approved and will offer them to sign. The reporter asked if the free-planting or regulations to grow marijuana had to wait for the announcement on June 9 or not. Mr. Anutin said that there is no need to wait; it can be planted in the house but cannot be used outside the household, or in the case of marijuana leaves that are not prescribed as drugs, they can be traded. But to be sure, wait until June 9, and now the authorities have acknowledged that marijuana is not a drug plant.
